Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted after an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are managed.
