Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Team to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a shock selection.

Performance Issues Lead to Omission

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international side following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia look for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
