Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza CEO Exits After Shift Into Chicken.

A boss of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while broadening the chain into fried chicken has been ousted after disagreements with its governing body.

Executive Transition

The former CEO is departing after only 24 months in leadership, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the company's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant looks for a permanent CEO.

Rennie, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to pivot Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, commenting earlier this month there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed poultry was the most rapidly expanding protein in the globe.

Board Tensions

Reports indicate that there was tension between the CEO and the directors over his approach and management style, although Domino's official statement said he was stepping down “by mutual agreement”.

Recent Brand Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's introduced its Chick 'N' Dip brand – which the former chief called a “major strategic shift” for the organization – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the business is still planning to expand it across its extensive network next year as scheduled, it views fried chicken as complementary to its core pizza business.

Leadership Statement

Ian Bull, the Domino's chairman, commented: “Directors think that there are a number of opportunities to enhance value and performance improvement in the main pizza segment. We are prioritizing finding the ideal CEO to oversee the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”

Industry Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said sales fell by 1.5% in the latest quarter. In the summer, it alerted that the quick-service industry had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the lead-up to the government announcement and higher payroll outlays for below-target performance and a 15 percent decline in half-year profits.

Rival chains are also struggling. Pizza Hut announced the closure of 68 restaurants a recently, after the company behind its outlets entered insolvency.

Wellness Efforts

Adapting to market shifts towards better nutrition, Domino's has launched reduced-calorie items, such as its thin-crust range of bakes below 400 kcal as well as vegan and wheat-free options. A family-sized pepperoni has over 2,300 kcal. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171 kcal, while a individual has 909 calories.

Acting Leadership

Nicola Frampton has been with the company since the recent past, and was formerly with the betting firm William Hill. It is believed that she prefers not to occupy the chief executive role long-term.

Frampton stated: “Our team has a several active development and operational projects that we will be concentrating on implementing at a rapid rate.”

Frampton noted these involved further work on the organization's logistics network and new item creation, and its rewards program.

Domino's is also lacking a full-time chief financial officer until the spring, when Andrea starts from the drinks company a well-known firm. For now, Snow is temporary CFO.
